Can I watch any shows on Apple TV?

Where can I find a lineup of shows for Apple TV? Do I have to pay a fee for every show I watch on Apple TV?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Here's a list of the top 100 tv shows on iTunes: http://www.apple.com/itunes/charts/tv-shows/

If you're interested in looking for more shows, go to the iTunes store and click on the TV Shows tab near the top. Pricing varies depending on the show (not all options are available for all shows), but in general this is what you'll see:

99 cent "rentals" of TV Shows (streamed to your Apple TV)
$1.99 to buy an episode in SD
$2.99 to buy an episode in HD
Movies start at $3.99 and go up depending on SD / HD, how new it is and how popular it is.
Entire seasons can be purchased around $19.99 to $29.99 depending on SD / HD and how many episodes

Keep in mind, the new Apple TV does NOT have a hard drive so that means any purchased shows will have to be streamed to the Apple TV from a computer / iOS 4.2 device that has iTunes and the desired show.

With all that said, perhaps a better option is to use Netflix. Netflix streaming video can be viewed on your TV via Apple TV. If you have a Netflix subscription (streaming only is $7.99 per month) you'll have access to tons of TV shows that you can watch whenever you want at no additional cost.

Apple TV 2 only supports the videos which can be imported to iTunes with compatiable codec with Mac. Of cause you can stream your purchased iTunes videos to Apple TV for playing. How to Convert Blu-ray to 1080p M4V with multiple audio tracks for streaming to the new iPad 3 and Apple TV 3? You can find the answers here: http://www.pavtube.com/apple-tv-3.html
