The only threat of water is freezing and corrosion. Once you get the radiator fixed, you will want to mix per the instructions on the anti-freeze to prevent corrosion from impurities in the water and keep the insides of the radiator clean.

Exactly. Water can be a temporary substitute. But once the leak is fixed, you will want to completely flush the water out and refill with anti-freeze/coolant.
