Can anyone start their own fantasy sports league or do you have to join an existing league ran by professionals? Who can legally start a fantasy sports league for anyone to join?

Anyone can start a fantasy sports league, whether it be online or in person. On Yahoo, ESPN, FOX Sports, etc, you can sign up for a league that exists or choose the option to create your own league. You have to set the scoring system for your league, maximum number of teams, playoff format, number of trades and drops allowed, whether the league is free or if there is an entrance fee, draft date and time and so on. You can choose to have the league private, open to only people you invite to to the public, where anyone can join.
If you choose to have a league in person, you will have to invite the people you know or really anyone you wish to play. You will need to set up a date, time and place to meet. Generally, live drafts take quite a bit of time, so you might want to set a time limit per pick, although it's more fun not to have that in effect. Make sure there is plenty of food and beverages, as the draft could take many hours depending on how many people are in your league.
