Can a Volvo pull a trailer?

The Volvo XC60, XC70 and XC90 SUV crossovers have a trailer towing capacity of 3,300lbs. This is unlikely to prove sufficient to pull a travel trailer. For example, the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the Airstream Sport Travel Trailer is 3500lb. Although this is light when compared to other Travel Trailers - Sunnybrook RV’s Harmony trailer has a GVWR of 5500lbs – it falls outside the Volvo SUV towing parameters. A pop-up camper trailer - like the Jayco Jay Series Sport with a GVWR of 2500lbs – might be an alternative.
The Volvo’s 3,300lb towing capacity would allow you to tow an ATV, snowmobile, motorbike or possibly a small livestock trailer. Given the GVWR limitations it’s unlikely that you could find a motor boat that could be towed safely behind the vehicle.
You should always consider what you might add to a trailer – such as water, food, bedding and camping gear – as this may carry you over the recommended weight threshold for both the trailer and the vehicle used to tow it. If you reach - or exceed - your vehicle’s recommended towing capability this may adversely impact the performance of the vehicle and your own personal safety.
Trucks like the GMC Sierra, Dodge 3500 and Ford F350 - are popular trailer tow vehicles in the United States. The Land Rover LR4 is a popular choice in the UK and Europe.
