Can a room with carpet still pull off that "modern" look?
I have a home office. It has a carpet that is charcoal colored, with a hint of blue. Is there any way to make it look like a modern home office? I am renting this house so I can't rip out the carpet. Looking for:

Any ideas for decorating an office that has a carpet

I'll try to help you out here. I found a few pictures, but it's hard to give you pointers and ideas without knowing how the room is situated.
I think you can have a more modern touch if your furniture is a lighter color. It will give it a more lighter feel when contrasting from the dark floor (1st picture). Is the house modern in any way? Does it have extra large windows?
If you really hate the color of the carpet, you can always get a lighter color area rug that is super stiff. This would feel more like smooth flooring. Sometimes you can find industrial area rugs that will do this.
When I think of 'modern' I usually think of light colors and a minimalist quality. Depending on what kind of furniture you have, you can either go towards the light or dark side with style. I'm sure one of those starchy area rugs might do the trick and they're not that expensive.
After looking around, I found some sites with area rugs that might give you some ideas...
