As stated in the previous answers the length of the video will vary most significantly by the resolution of the video, and less so by the content.

The list 14 seconds as the shortest video length you would get on a 32MB card and 3min 9 seconds as the longest at the poorest setting.

I would pick up a 2 or 4 GB card. You can get them locally, even at WalMart for less than $20 most times.

An .avi will be the same size no most camera's no matter the type. You should get about 5 to 10 minutes total.

Probably not a lot, it really depends on the resolution of the video, but either way, if you're going to be recording more than a few minutes of video, or if you want it to be a higher resolution, i'd go with a higher capacity memory card, a gigabyte at least.
