Are holdbacks, dealer advertising, financial reserve, destination charge, part of the invoice price or extra?
I have diligently researched the invoice price on the Toyota I'm looking to buy but when comparing that number to dealer quotes I’m noticing that their invoice price includes several other fees (Dealer Holdback, Dealer Advertising, Wholesale Financial Reserve, Destination Charge) as part of the invoice cost of the vehicle. The dealers will then use their “invoice” to offer a $100 over “invoice” quote which, takes the overall “invoice” price of the car close to two thousand dollars over what I thought to have been the actual invoice (not including all those fees). Basically, I’m not sure if I’m getting a true “$100 dollars over invoice” deal or a “$100 over an inflated invoice” deal.

The destination fee is set by fed law. Since people that were far from the manufacturing points were charged more than one closer. They said to charge everyone the same, average price. Fair or not. The GM dealers used to get a 3% or so for holdback fee for advertising and such. This was included in the invoice. The destination fee was not in the invoice but added later. Documentation fee is just another money grab, same as the mise service fees for towels, and such used in the garage area.
