Being an ex-employee of Sun and a long-time stock holder...

I think that the difference in culture plays a part in the whole merger. Scott McNealy's attitude surely still rings though the company. And that flies in the face of Big Blue's culture.

I don't think it's a antitrust issue... plenty of other companies make servers.

I think Sun's stock/value is really attractive and it would give IBM an injection of energy. Unfortunately, I wouldn't like the merge. I think Sun is a great company and makes great devices. Sun has just lost their way since Scotty left.

By the way, Sun came up with cloud computing LONG ago with their Java clients. I think this would be a GREAT time to reintroduce those appliances again.
Asker's Rating:
• What you think about Sun moving into software application development and consulting? Has Sun lost their way? Shouldn't Sun be focused on establishing and maintain server platform presence? Sun lost its presence as the hardware platform for the internet. IBM blade servers had taken a huge chunk of the server market.

Will IBM and Sun merge?

I don't think they will merge, they are two completely different corporations and corporate cultures.

What are the differences causing IBM and Sun delays in merging?

They are not agreeing on an acquisition or merger deal.

Is the antitrust issue the main reason IBM and Sun have not merged?

No, it has nothing to do with antitrust, it has all to do with management agreeing on a merger. Although there may be an antitrust concern, it's not the reason why the merger is not happening or delayed.
