The cost depends on many factors, but's it's estimated between 5.9 cents and 8.4 cents in the U.S., per killowatt hour. The latest major study, by MIT, done in 2009 estimates it at 8.4 cents per killowatt hour
Profit would simply be whatever the government/energy company charges over the cost. Typical publicly-traded energy companies in the U.S. earn a profit that is 5-10% of their market cap.
