There was an outbreak of rabies in the last decade. Main export is coffee. The economy is agricultural based. Government is putting efforts to make more agro based industries. Also, the government focuses on food security, rural savings, and labor formation issues. Per capita income is second largest in the world. Drought is the main factor contributing to poverty. In 2005, IMF forgave Ethiopia's debt. Government own the land and leases it for long term to people. So entrepreneurs are unable to use land as collateral for loans. USID programs are designed to teach farmers new agricultural methods. Also, government is trying to keep peace between the ethnic groups. All these are helping the economy.
