The most important is communication, yet more specifically is to communicate your vision for the company. Every corporation, whether it's a small business to a multibillion dollar establishment needs to have a vision statement. The ability to establish this vision, think forward, to set clear goals for everyone in the company is very important. Without communicating a vision, the company is doomed. Everyone in the company should know something about the vision of the company, not just the CEO. Everyone should be able to see the vision in the company. If not, they do not belong at the company.
Vision: Defines the desired or intended future state of a specific organization or enterprise in terms of its fundamental objective and/or strategic direction.
They should also know what the mission of the company is, as well as corporate values. It's important that this is communicated from the CEO to the company more so than anything. If people do not know what the purpose of the company is, and they do not see the company vision, or understand the purpose, then they are not following the corporate leader or leaders.

1. Communication skills is obviously a very wide skill set that CEOs need to have. There are some subsets to this that are important to note including:
a) Ability to listen: this allows you to understand what people are thinking and what they understand you are saying.
b) Ability to speak well: how will people understand the mission, vision and tactics your using if you can't say it well? They can't. As CEO you have to repeat the mission and tactics to complete the mission over and over again. I can't over state this enough.
2. Ability to instill confidence.
3. Ability to identify talent: you're only as good as your team. So, the ability to figure out who is talented and ready to "kill it" is very important.
4. Ability to correct mistakes in hiring: you're going to hire the wrong people from time to time and the most important thing is that your correct these errors quickly and without emotion. If it's the wrong person then don't draw it out--let them move on. It's best for everyone.
