Short term, outsourced teams can be great, as they are qualified and trained (and receiving further support and training on sales from their supervisors).
Long term, moving the sales team in house can provide you with a lot of control and motivational movers.

Is it cheaper/effective to hire an employee for telesales or outsource it to telesales company? What good telesales companies are out there?
My guess would be that it is cheaper to hire an employee. But would that be as effective as outsourcing it to a telesales company?

Thanks for the reply. Since it is sales and not technical support, I am leaning towards outsourcing in North America as our customers are in the States.

It all depends on the product you are selling. Some products are simple and only require playing the high volume calls/numbers game. Other products require intensive training so that the sales force can communicate complicated terms to potential clients. What type of product or service are you selling?

The product is 'renewable energy credits'. It does involve communicating somewhat of a technical concept to the client - mainly as to how it actually works. Other than that it involves communicating the benefits of making the business more environmentally friendly to the decision maker.

If you are patient enough to train your employee then I would say hire one. If you have the money to test out a $315 three day trial campaign, with an outsourcing company, I would suggest trying dialpros.com. I ran a campaign with them a few months ago and they didn't do so bad. I stopped the campaign and hired my own sales folks because I like the face to face time with my team. I also like that I can promote my productive salespeople to stay with our company. There are benefits for going both ways.
