Oracle has been purchasing a number of software companies. By doing so, they obtain the revenues of those companies and cut costs by reducing duplicate duties like G&A, sales, marketing and services. Microsoft has slowed down its purchases of companies and builds a lot of its products by developing them from within which raises its up front costs.
