List is not in any order.
1.Spread the word. You are already doing this. I just looked up the website, and actually it got me interested. Post blogs, and sending out electronic newsletters are two easy ways of promoting any business online.
2. Promote Your Site in Online Forums and Discussion Lists
3. A banner, meaning a website banner, a little photo promoting the website which a person can click that will take them directly to the website.
example: http://task.fm/images/showcase.jpg make this so when people click it, it will take them directly to the site
4. Offer products as a free bonus. Or say you get 2 months free, for the Pro Account
5. Write Keyword so when people look up words that relate to your website, your website will pop up in the search
6. Make visuals and audio ads such as Video, Images, and Audio
7. Ask Visitors to Bookmark Your Site, I love bookmarks lol
8. Not sure if the site has this, but have people who are already using this site share it with their friends, and a reward for doing this could be like 10 extra free text, and if their friend joins like 40 extra
Hmm.. thats only 8 so far, if I think of more I will add them, by commenting on what I have already wrote

If you’ve done any research at all, you’ve probably seen similar lists, so nothing really new there…
But here’s a few observations:
Ok. First thing: Fix your site. The following pages parse incorrectly when using IE8 and Safari4: About, FAQ, and Pricing.
(or did you mean to have that HUGE blank spot on the left side and all the text at the bottom in really small type when using BOTH IE8 –in both regular and compatibility mode and Safari 4?) Does work well with Firefox 3 and Google Chrome. Ok, so you only lost half of your users right there, as IE8 has been phased in with MS updates and most people really don’t know the difference.
Second, Fix your META TAGS. Nothing is showing in Meta Description, or Meta Keywords. Yes, I know it is an old link, but description is still important http://www.seomoz.org/blog/making-the-most-of-meta-description-tags
Third, search Engines don’t like stuff like ‘?PHPSESSID=90RPLoKe%2ClJmulejLZgeB-mGrB1” in the Url. One of your people should fix it quickly. Like yesterday. Google really matters. Currently on Google you only have ONE link to task.fm and that’s the main page- how about all the links and maybe a link tree under your result? Can happen if you fix the stop characters in the url…
Fourth, read what people are saying about your product. Fix those issues. Answer those issues on their blogs. The creator of Magicjack did this and it garnered a lot of faith in the community that he would answer questions himself. That will also get you backlinks..
Make a plugin for Office 2007 where people can click and submit their current tasks in Outlook quickly with just a couple of clicks. Also make a java applet for sites where people could click to be reminded of an event. Outlook has this with the ‘add to Outlook’ function. Currently someone has to call or email, thus adding a step and a chance they will forget and not use your service.
Ok, after you fix that stuff, lets do some marketing. Find out who your target market is… Let’s say mid 20-40s professionals.. Unemployed people don’t need reminders..
Ideas:
Get some young filmmaker to make a series of youtube shorts that talk about your product. Show how life could be better using your product. Get those videos in front of eyeballs anyway you can. Youtube is good if you don’t keyword spam. Maybe have a chance to win $50 instantly (once an hour or so) when you use the service.
Make a Facebook app and a page if you don’t have one already. Give your Facebook friends free stuff, -task reminders, shirts, key chains, whatever.. Just get the social media people talking about you. Also do it with other social sites, but I’d stay away from Myspace. Don't get too caught up with this though:http://www.websitemagazine.com/content/blogs/posts/archive/2009/04/07/are-you-socializing-your-business-into-obscurity.aspx
Blackberry and Iphone apps. Sure they are PDAs already, but will they email you at the office to remind you? Nope-they beep whatever, but generally are useless if they are left at home, the office whatever. With an app and your site they remind people via email, sms, phone (maybe a different number…)
Tech events. I’d get this thing in front of all the tech conferences and business conferences I could afford. Free reminder services at the booth, a couple of laptops setup and a chance to win $1000 if you use the service. It builds your mailing list right there..
Finally, figure out what sets you apart from others who have the similar services. When you figure that out, drive it home to anyone who will listen… What you do differently than the others is important.
HTH,
Danny

Nice.. My personal favorite is either "How many hungry cannibals could my body feed?" or "Learn how many 90 year old seniors you could take in a fight at once."

Hmm, lets just think about creative ways or just ways period to promote anything. Always remember the best promotional ideas usually are not very expensive, yea expensive ones work well, but those are common and I am sure the site has thought about those. List is not in any order.

13. Radio ads TV ads, not really unique
14. Cartoon text message reminders, like a cartoon with a thought bubble remembering the task that is supposed to be done. Or something similar,
Tiny example, but you would need to make it bigger to be able to get the text in there.
15. Coupon deals, enter in a coupon code to get like 10 free more messages.
16. If the person reply's to the reminder they could get points that could go into daily drawings.

Wow. I’ve got a list of ideas on my site on how to promote your website, but not specifically how to promote an app, but a LOT of things apply: http://www.deepfriedwebdesign.com/51-ways-to-market-your-website.html

meta tags? meh noboddy uses them anymore - my sites rank well without them. Other tips are great (we're releasing a design change which fixes all those breaking issues).
But....im looking for "creative" ways.

Whoa! Great answer.
@ezyweb re: Meta Tags:
There is nothing wrong with asking someone to be more specific or even for something a little different, but be very careful when someone gives you something as valuable as what @dannyjohnson did and you respond negatively.
Not only does it seem ungrateful, but it will stop other people who would have responded with care and thought dead in their tracks.
Specifically about Meta Tags: @dannyjohnson is correct. Meta Tags continue to be important. In their most basic form, all SE's need to properly categorize and identify a page in order to index it correctly. In the past, Bot's would use Meta Tags as the primary way to categorize a page. Today, Bot's will look at Meta Tags as part of the page and as input into their categorization formula.

Sure, its the meta taga are dead thinking .. ok, let's look. I have this question about once a month with what I do. Someone builds something cool and they think the world will find it anyway.. OK, lets see what your site looks like on Google.com
http://www.deepfriedwebdesign.com/taskfmgoogle.jpg
Now, is that ALL you want a visitor surfing google to know about your site? Sure, it ranks well today, because of all the blog links, but what about tomorrow when you are old news? BTW, if you're not on the first page above the fold, you don't rank well.
Also, I can't even find your other pages in Google: About, FAQ, Pricing, Contact, Register because Google see all your pages as the same due to the lack of meta tags. But I can find the Blog, as its got different meta tags..
Even Craigslist has distinct meta description and title tags for each of its pages...
Besides I gave you some creative ways, but you got hung up with 'meta tags' and stopped reading.. Youtube though spammed, is still a viable place if you can get a video to go viral, so is Facebook, so are seminars.. So is the question of what do you do differently than your competitors- http://mashable.com/2007/11/04/30-reminder-services/

don't worry - I read all you tips and really appreciate them - although im still convinced we can get more creative!
btw - google has indexed every site on our page. Our new design which will be pushed live in about a week, fixes all the SEO issues and it does include meta tags ;)
Im considering an outlook plugin - a few users have requested it.

just one? I can think of lots...but i'll start with - natural language recognition. Just send an email to reminder@task.fm. You don't have to worry about dates or times.
Try something like "remind me to get off the computer in 30 minutes" or "Lunch tomorrow at the Ritz with bob 10am".
We also understand things like "meeting with bob tomorrow noon" and you can create repeating events like "meeting with bob every Tuesday at 9".
Task.fm also speaks to you! Create wakeup calls, medication reminders and more. We can call any number in the U.S or Canada and give you a spoken message.
Task.fm also has separate to-do lists - as we understand the difference between reminders and tasks.
And...to see just how smart our natural recognition is...a sneak peek feature preview. ask your digital assistant (task.fm) a question via email. Just put @answer in front of the question. Try "@answer how old is president obama" or "@answer what is mahalo"
