No, you always have the right to remain silent. You do not have to give an opinion. Just don't say, "I think" or "In my opinion" in the conversation. Basically you can say, "I have no opinion" or "I'm not interested in sharing any opinions" if they ask for feedback.

• Do you even have to reply? The "I'm not interested" reply breaks the neutrality, say nothing.

I almost always feel it is my job to weigh in, but it's not the wise thing to do. Those of us who can't help but have an opinion all the time are less likely to be considered intelligent.

Depending on the situation, it may be ok to give an opinion. If you over hear someone talking about the best place to eat in town and you know a really good place you may walk up to the person and say "Excuse me, I couldn't help overhearing, but...." The people may be grateful for your answer. Most of the time, it is not appropriate to give your opinion when you are not part of the conversation. There are times when it is wise, and other times when it is not.
