It depends on what your major source of income is.

Let's say you choose Google adsense. You won't make a huge amount unless you have the right keywords, alt tags, page titles and meta tags.

Direct adverts are always a better and more profitable approach in my opinion.
Casino advertisers seem to pay big bucks compared to Adsense!

I can make a few thousand dollars a month from a very low ranked site with little traffic. Because the direct advertisers pay per month and not on an eCPM or CPC basis they only care about through-traffic and profit, not impressions.

You can also try services like Commission Junction which is aimed at reselling other services, but it has never worked well for my network.
