Help finding statistics associated with increased Internet fragmentation.
Can you help me find research from REPUTABLE sources supporting the following statements? Preferably with each of the following statements, I would like numbers and quantified results. You must cite sources with the year in addition to displaying the statistic.
growing Internet fragmentation
10% or x% of search topics comprise 70% or y% of all searches conducted (I would like you to research the numbers x and y)
how many search are completed per day
people unhappy with machine search results
%of spam in search results
% of commercial links in search engine results
how much SEO tactics have altered search engine results
community participation % at Digg (or similar website) who submit links
community participation % at Digg (or similar website) who vote/bury links
number of blogs
number of video websites
number of commercial websites
number of social networks
effectiveness of learning through various media forms
the number of "casual" internet users (who use once per week or less)
undermonetization of video and other multimedia
poor metadata about videos and other multimedia
effectiveness of metacafe’s wikivideo program
how much users research before buying new electronics products online
how much users research before buying any product online.
I know that there are a lot of parts, but I am offering a decent tip for research and statistics aggregation in an interesting area.

One place you might start is looking at the growth in the number of websites over the past 2, 5, 10 years. There is currently ~162M websites globally compared to around 20M in 2000 (see the link to the source for a great graph). This would be one macro indication of user fragmentation. Another interesting higher level stat you could point to is the % of the overall display ad market that the top 4 players (e.g. Yahoo, AOL, MSN, etc.) account for today versus 2, 5, 10 years ago. It is safe to conclude that the ad dollars follow the traffic. I don't have the specific data on this, but my sense is that the concentration is display ad spend among the 4 largest portals is much less than it was 3, 5 and 10 years ago.
