For Buffalo this seems like a particularly odd choice. Turk Schonert is the third coordinator to be fired in the past week, but there are several major differences that to me make this a WORSE move for Buffalo.
In the case of Kansas City (firing Chan Gailey) it seemed like maybe a situation where a new head coach didn’t work well with a previous offensive coordinator. While not ideal, it probably makes sense to find the right person sooner rather than later and it does seem like it might have taken a pre-season for them to figure that out.
In the case of Tampa Bay (Jeff Jagozdinski) it again seemed like a situation where the head coach didn’t feel comfortable with the coordinator. Raheem Morris (first year coach) hired Jagozdinski in the off-season and after working with him didn’t feel like it was a good fit. Again, it seems like a mistake, but it’s probably better to move on then to try to keep going in the wrong direction. On top of that, Tampa Bay is in a clear rebuilding year, so this won’t have much impact on their season.
For Buffalo, both head coach (Dick Jauron) and Schonert were there last year. This can’t be a case of not knowing how they worked together (as with the others) and while it seems like the Bills are saying they weren’t happy with the progress of the offense under Schonert, it seems like a move that probably should have been made at the end of last year (or at the end of this year). With just a little over a week to go before the season, this doesn’t bode well for the Bills this year.

I have never heard of 3 teams (Buffalo, Kansas City and Tampa Bay) firing their offensive coordinators this close to the start of the regular season. I didn’t like the move in KC but in Buffalo and Tampa, I think it was the right choice.

Did the Buffalo Bills make the right move in firing Turk Schonert 10 days before the season starts?
Turk Schonert is the third NFL offensive coordinator to be fired during the preseason. Do you think firing an offensive coordinator so soon before the season starts is a good move?

I think with that entire coaching staff facing the firing line, that getting rid of Turk Schonert was the right move. Head Coach Dick Jauron should be comfortable with his coaching staff as he fights for his job. I have never heard of 3 teams (Buffalo, Kansas City and Tampa Bay) firing their offensive coordinators this close to the start of the regular season. I didn’t like the move in KC but in Buffalo and Tampa, I think it was the right choice.
