I must confess that I have not yet traveled the old streets of Buenos Aires, but I have read quite a bit about that fabled city, and had a friend come back from there last year.
She said that she went to the Cafiteria Ideal and watched a tango, and now she feels complete.

Tango at the Ideal: I don’t dance and I’m not a fan of the fancy tango shows for tourists but I do enjoy watching others dance, particularly ordinary people. The Ideal is one of those old style places with tango dancing on the upper floor. In the afternoons, after the tango lessons, the place will be filled with a mostly older crowd. Even if you don’t go for the dancing, the Ideal is a gorgeous place to eat or have coffee.

If the idea of being in a beautiful cafe having coffee and sandwiches over romantic music doesn't do it for you, I'd suggest looking at "30 things to do in Buenos Aires"

The extensive list of galleries and plazas will keep you on your toes regardless!

• Great point about going to "those old style places with tango dancing on the upper floor".
Going to a Cafe in Buenos Aires to spend the afternoon with friends is my favourite thing to do in this city.
