Brown Belt Test: Spoon - Pass 3/3

Once a Mahaloian reaches 8000 points they become eligible for their Brown Belt on Mahalo. However, that belt is only presented after Mahalo staff consult the members recent numbers and activity to see if that Mahaloian is in fact ready to become a Brown Belt. Today we test @spoon

I give the thumbs up to Spoon and not just because his avatar has a thumbs up. Spoon has been a member on answers as long as I can remember and has always been a positive and helpful voice in our system. I especially admire his knowledge in the web and tech categories. Definitely in the top tier of Mahalo Answers members. See you at black belt.

Spoon has been a longtime Mahaloian and took the slow, steady route to earning his Brown Belt. Spoon has been a great part of the Mahalo community as he certainly gives back as much as he receives, Spoon is currently 8th place among Mahalo tippers making him an incredibly valuable member to the Mahalo community. Spoon's is also helpful to the community as he answers site related questions from new users and is 21st in regards to best answers. Congrats Spoon on earning your brown belt.

Spoon is a great Mahalo user in a variety of ways, but the one I'd like to highlight is how outgoing he is towards other Mahalo users and how helpful he's been to the staff. Spoon is one of the people I can always count on to give us great suggestions, to warn us when there are bugs or problems in the system and to provide insight into the Mahalo experience from a user perspective. Without his guidance and enthusiasm in the early days of the site, I'm not sure Mahalo Answers would be as vibrant and successful as a community.

Thanks, Spoon, and congrats on receiving your Brown Belt today.

Thank you all for the kind words! When people ask why I spend the time I do on Mahalo Answers my answer is always "because I love the community". I try every social network/web 2.0 site I can find and often move on because things change and the people that make a site great fade away, I am so thankful to see that not taking place at Mahalo!

Everyone that uses this site knows that the community, as we know it, would not exist without enthusiastic members helping it grow and I know that is stated often.... but I want to go one step further and say the same holds true for the amazing staff. If Mahalo didn't have such a wonderful group of people manning the ship I'm sure we would not be the great community we are and that is the factor that so many other sites seem to miss!!!

Now I have a problem... my Brown Belt isn't going to go with my outfit... what am I going to do????

Congratulations @spoon it suits you to a tee.

The brown belt matches your hair and that's what is the most important thing. I can't really comment on your outfit...

How can @spoon not be a Brown Belt already?

How can he not be a Black Belt already?

Clearly they've been keeping him far too busy at work!

Long overdue, and well deserved!

Thank you so much, I'm glad to hear people feel I am dedicated and professional since that is something I try very hard to convey with my time spent at MA.

There are few people I would say are a "no brainer" for promotion. Spoon is certainly one of them... No question!

I think it's sad giving up a purple belt. But at least brown is the color of some good beers.

I love that you could bring beer into my belt test! I feel as though a MA convention is in order so we can have some beer tastings and share our love of beer with everyone else!!

Wow, I thought Spoon already had his brown belt! He is definitely a top-notch member of the community, and certainly deserves this honor.

Congratulations @spoon! And I must say the new brown belt matches the hair/goatee very well!

Thank you... now they need to start creating a "gray" belt soon, that way I can be prepared to keep the belt matching my hair/goatee... kind of sad that I have to think of that at 26 *sigh*

You make Mahalo a brighter place with your thumb!

I will always bend my neck around to look at your great answers.

I've always looked at you as a senior member of this community, so your belt color is just going to be a temporary change until you are black.

Hip hip hurray!

(I did some research and hacking and was able to find a baby pic of Spoon!)

There is something about Spoon's answers that interest me. He always seems to include an enlightened angle or an ingenious thought in his answers. It's something that I really look forward to.

Spoon is awesome. I can't think of another way to put it. I regularly look forward to reading his answers and even when he doesn't have time to craft one himself, votes up the correct and / or interesting ones on his pass through to help out.

I think that the only problem with the belt level system is that it recognizes time as the key contributing factor over true knowledge. If knowledge could somehow be measured, Spoon would have been a 3rd degree black belt a long time ago.

Congrats Spoon. I can't emphasize enough how much I like reading your answers and conversing with you in replies.

Nice Job

What determines acceptance into the rank of Brown Belt?

Were rated on "Answers Only"? Did you have to pass a test?

The first key part for a Brown Belt is the total points received by an individual. After that it is up to the staff of Mahalo to look over all of our stats (answers, best answers, tips, etc.) and our actions while on the site. If the staff determines our participation to be worthy of a higher belt it is awarded to us.

Keep up the great work and you will have your belt in no time I am sure :)
