The American Library Association Office of Intellectual Freedom keeps track of reported challenges of books in libraries and according to them "And Tango Makes Three" is has been challenged because people have reported it as "anti-ethnic, anti-family, homosexuality, religious viewpoint, and unsuited to age group."
Most of the complaints I have seen have been because despite it being a true story about a family that loves each other, and despite it being about penguins, it is about 2 male penguins who make a family together. The quote I have seen to describe this kind of content is "gay affirming' and some people do not believe their children should be exposed to such matters.
For me, the bigger question with this book and all challenged library books is, why do some people believe they have the right to have a book removed from the library, preventing everyone from reading it, when they have a problem with it?
