The Witching Hour is my favorite of Rice's books. The first time I read this, I absolutely adored it - it's a deliciously decadent family saga, with a decidedly macabre twist. The narrative switches back and forth between the life of a modern woman who learns that she's part of a very interesting family, and lengthy looks back at the entire history of this family, all the way back to the accused witch who sets it all into motion. A beautifully told, seductive story - inviting and disturbing at the same time.
