Next Question
Since this was posted in the "Books & Authors" section, I'll assume you mean the form of poetry, as exemplified by the famous "Iliad" by Homer. Quoting from Wikipedia here, this is probably the essence of "epic poetry":
Epic: a long narrative poem in elevated stature presenting characters of high position in adventures forming an organic whole through their relation to a central heroic figure and through their development of episodes important to the history of a nation or race.
If you meant the actual definition of the word "epic":
"epic" as a noun
1. An extended narrative poem in elevated or dignified language, celebrating the feats of a deity or demigod (heroic epic) or other legendary or traditional hero.
2. A series of events considered appropriate to an epic.
"epic" as an adjective
1. Of, or relating to, an epic.
2. Momentously heroic
3. (slang) Extending beyond the usual or ordinary; extraordinary.
