There is one common thread in every successful person and that is the ability to clearly communicate an idea. No matter if you are a civil engineer, an actor, a politician, a plumber, or a librarian - the person who can convey information clearly will do better than those that stumble with words, thoughts and ideas.

There was a study done one time looking at the vocabulary of students. The students with the greater vocabulary skills were the ones that ended up in the CEO jobs.

Reading books helps build your vocabulary - it helps develop a sense of phrasing, and also enables people to share ideas and concepts.

And of course, if you meet someone else who enjoys reading books it always gives you something neutral to talk about.

Finally, it can help lower blood pressure - people are getting way too stressed out by watching the tv news. There is a definite advantage to turning off the tv and picking up a book. Nothing like wrapping up in a comfy blanket on the couch with a good book.

It gives you insight of an another's persons point of view, perspective and wisdom about the any topic discussed in the book. You gain a wider range sight and understanding of the world rather than just your own.
