There are quite a few independent bookstores in Philadelphia, including these:

Robin's Bookstore Inc

Joseph Fox Book Shop

Pennsylvania Book Center

Wooden Shoe Books
508 S 5th St, Philadelphia, PA - (215) 413-0999

Some will be closer to center city than others, obviously.

In the sources section, I've included a link to a blog that reviews several of these stores as well as a link to a list containing reviews, locations, and contact information for these and other independent booksellers in the Philadelphia area.
