This is actually a much tougher question than I thought it would be.

If I could not write books, I'm sure I would do the usual thing and write other stuff. Poems, essays, magazine articles, short stories, etc. But as far as the sense of pride and accomplishment, I would have to make documentaries or travel the world to be a photojournalist.

By "allowed", I surmise that you mean because of a law or social movement.

A society that denies the arts - be it writing, music, painting, etc. - is rotted. So I would continue to write books and suffer the consequences.

That said, I much prefer poetry.

Move to a different country...
Okay no really- I'd probably start spreading my message other ways. Maybe write a secret message on a hard boiled egg? Or make up a song about it? Who knows.
