The Child of the Prophecy, a book of The Sevenwaters Trilogy - By Juliet Marillier, has a protagonist with these features. it's a great fantasy title. Also check out books by Christopher moore. he has a lot of great female characters, his books are always funny, and some of then have a dark style. (like the two vampire books he wrote). good luck

I should read a novel before I write one, to get a feel for structure. Any recommendations? Ideally, humorous yet dark, female protagonist.
