Yes, J.D. Salinger is an author who wrote between the periods of 1940 and 1965. He was born as Jerome David "J. D." Salinger on January 1, 1919. He is best known for his hit novel The Catcher in the Rye which was first published in 1951. He is known to be a recluse as well, and his last interview was in 1980.
Salinger grew up in the Bronx, and started writing while he was in secondary school.
