  • Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand. Not so much for the doctrine that this tome has become the bible for, but because of the general message of not living one's life for the sake of another person, or to ask them to live for your sake.
  •  A Book of poems with Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening"..."for I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep."
Dune, by Frank Herbert, for the Litany Against Fear.
    "I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain."
These are the three that come readily to mind that helped me through some serious life changes!

I love the pic on your question!

Probably the most influential book that formed a big part of my personality from my earliest childhood is The Little Engine That Could. Laugh if you must, but I read it so young that I developed a never-give-up attitude that has affected my whole life.

My mother read that book to me about a million times. Now 65 years later, I still remember that struggle every time I have a face an "insurmountable" problem. So far I have always "surmounted".
