Do you think Ouija boards are for real? Have you had a weird experience with them? What do you think of the new pink board?

I don't believe Ouija boards are for real in the sense that they are used as a means of communication by the dead. However, I do think that people can receive weird responses when using a Ouija board via ideomotor responses. In an ideomotor response, the awareness of a movement is not registered, and the response goes directly to the muscle. In other words, your muscles (in this case fingers/hand) are moving because of your subconscious mind, so you may be absolutely convinced you aren't in control of the movement, but you actually are.

Experiments have been conducted involving Ouija boards to show that this is often the case. One such experiment can be seen on the Showtime program Penn & Teller: Bullsh!t. The experiment involved blindfolding people before using the board to see how it affected their responses. The board was rotated 180 degrees without the participants knowledge. When questions were asked, the pointer would be moved to blank spots at the bottom of the board, where the yes/no had previously been located. This proves that the participants are either subconsciously or consciously moving the pointer. If it was being moved by someone from beyond the grave, the response shouldn't change.

It also has a lot to do with expectations. If you expect something to happen very strongly, it will, and when you have a group of people, that power is just multiplied.

Also, I often wonder why people think that "spirits" would need a cardboard mat and plastic pointer that can be bought at Toys R Us to communicate? If they are able to move inanimate objects, why not just use pen and paper or a computer?

I think I still have my Ouija board from high school around somewhere. Nothing too weird ever happened, but I was always pretty skeptical...even back then. Although, I will admit that I would often secretly move the pointer to freak out my friends.

And as for the pink board...I don't think much of it. It's just a marketing gimmick to target Ouija board's biggest market: pre and teen girls.

I have had enough personal paranormal experiences to not add fuel to the fire with a Ouija board.
Even though I haven't had any experiences personally... I've heard enough to stay away from them. I haven't heard anything good coming out of using a Ouija, even if it's for fun.
It seems that the manufacturer is trying to specifically target young girls with the "pink" theme (I think it's cute, in a weirda kind of way).
I just believe enough not to get myself into trouble.
Oh... I forgot that I did own a miniature Ouija board key chain for a while, but it never helped with rush hour traffic!

Here's a good Ouija board story I found

Ouija boards are just a product for superstitious people and are easily manipulated. I've known people who have used Ouija boards to predict football games and they've been completely wrong. Also nothing bad happened to them as a result of these boards. You also have to remember any one of the people using the board can make the board say whatever they want it to say.

Also, making them pink just discourages men from using them.

I haven't seen the pink one myself yet, but I had a real scary experience with a regular one some years ago. A bunch of friends and I were out in the woods, staying at a friends cabin... and decided to try it out. Initially it was all fun and jokes and stuff, but it slowly got creepy. We had our fingers on this bottle cap we were using to spell out the info. There were 3 of us, and 3 others were just watching and making jokes.

We got to a point where I thought one of the other two was moving the cap around, and I lifted my finger off it - well, you're not supposed to do that. The other guys had thought that I was moving it, and so they kinda freaked out and moved their fingers away as well.

That's when we saw the thing move on its own, and honestly, I was ready to run outta there, but was absolutely frozen. The other guys didn't move either and then it happened. The table we were on started to shake - seemed like an earthquake, except the only thing shaking was the table.

Someone screamed and needless to say, we all just ran out into the open. It took us about 15 mins to get our wits back, stop arguing about what to do next and go back inside. Nothing happened after that, but we were up for the rest of the night, just in case :)

Even writing about it right now is making my hair stand on end, it was that frightening then. Till date, I don't know what really happened, but it stopped me from ever trying an Ouija Board ever again!

Ouji Boards are kind of the same phenomenon as the Jesus face in the burnt toast or gandhi in the clouds or the holy mother on the wood door (seen that one on P&T anyone? ;) )

While at first glance and "under the influence" they might be scary, they are about as mysterious as a glass bottle. But they are fun of course, especially if you're the only one on the board who knows it's a bunch of balony. To watch the faces of the others is a awesome experience, I can tell you.

Next they'll make an Iphone App out of it... well, if you like pink and ouji boards, why the heck not? I wouldn't buy one :D
