Blood pythons can be docile creatures or so I am told. Is this true?
My daughter and son-in-law have 2 of these snakes in their home. For the first year they shared a home, I did not go in there, as I am so afraid of snakes. However when my newborn grand daughter came home 8 months ago I went down to help my daughter while my son-in-law went to work.
The snakes are each locked in their own cage, but they freak me out. I am worried about my grand kids and their safety. The snakes are little (so they say) and neither is over 3 foot.. but my grand babies are 8 months, 2 yrs and 6 yrs.. AM I a worry wart or over protective?

I understand how how you feel @amybrowne, I also freak out when it comes to snakes and any crawling creatures and snakes being around with babies would surely freak any grandmother for that matter. If I were in your situation I would feel the same way too. I have read some article online that yes, blood pythons can be quite docile.
Blood pythons is one of the most popular python pets and this species can be seen in varieties of colors and patterns and no two are alike. One major reason of it rising popularity is that blood pythons can be nice, docile, and sweet-tempered pets.
Blood pythons were target species for reptile skin trade in Malaysia and Sumatra. This is one contributory factor why this species became rare and closely extinct. But for over the past half century a network of collectors, skinners and hide buyers developed ways to propagate them until the annual harvest of blood pythons skin came in excess of 60,000.
