Hi there,
It's like @jillbeth says, the commitment to the blog. You may notice blogs, such as Wordpress blogs, that have blogs with posts that date back to 2006/2007 and haven't been updated since.
For blog readers, they like to come to the blog every so often - if not regularly - to see what content you have provided. some blog readers may even suscribe.
A second thing that is hard, especially at the beginning, is gaining and sustaining the amount of readers. There's no point having a blog with excellent posts and no-one is reading them.
Firstly, you should submit your blog to sites such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. This will help increase your blog to the top of the search rankings and publicize your blog.
Comment on other people's blogs - but make sure they are good, detailed comments. If you write detailed comments that would be of interest to people - readers of that blog may see your comment and click on to your blog.
Why not link your blog on your profile on Mahalo? Just click the edit tool above where it has Recent Activity, Answers, Tasks etc - and underneath the profile box, there should be a website box. Put your blog domain there.

I'm just not inspired to write everyday, it kinda comes and goes. My blogs are mostly for fun anyway, I'm not really using them to as money-making projects, although they do link to some of my AC articles.

This is due to my own personality though, I procrastinate heavily and happily, but it comes back to haunt me when I realise I haven't posted anything for a month :s
I believe followers will arrive when they want to - obviously with a little push in the right direction ;) So I don't really see that as a problem or a hurdle with regards to blogging.
I also have LOTS of ideas, all the time, so I don't find it hard to think up things to write about. The procrastination still gets in the way though.
I have to say, for anyone suffering writers' block they need to get over to StumbleUpon and just one click could be the answer they're looking for ;)

What is the hardest part of running a blog?
Hi everyone,
I'm part of a start-up company currently doing some research to figure out what are the biggest problems facing bloggers.
Most bloggers we've talked to so far have told us that growing a community of loyal readers is the most difficult part of blogging (after figuring out what to write). Do you agree?
Can you take 30 seconds to let us know what is the biggest problem you face as a blogger? We'd really appreciate your input!
Thanks for your time and have a great day,
John Robinson

My biggest problem is adding fresh content at regular intervals. And I know that you need to do that to build a huge following. I'm just not inspired to write everyday, it kinda comes and goes. My blogs are mostly for fun anyway, I'm not really using them to as money-making projects, although they do link to some of my AC articles.

I have to say the biggest problem I have is actually motivating myself to post regularly on my blog! This is due to my own personality though, I procrastinate heavily and happily, but it comes back to haunt me when I realise I haven't posted anything for a month :s
