Next Question
The topic for the majority of blogs is effectively: "My life and thoughts".
Hard to prove, but if you go to Blogspot or Wordpress.com and pick blogs at random, most of the ones you hit will be like that.
As an experiment I'm trying that on Blogger right now using the "Next Blog" feature that throws up a random blog...
The hits are:
http://mrserenoglusworld.blogspot.com/
"Turkish Slipppers for a Barefoot Soul is written by Karrie Erenoğlu, a Californian expat living in TURKEY. Included are topics on TRAVEL, CULTURE, TEACHING ENGLISH ABROAD, DESIGN AND EXPAT LIFE."
http://pauldickinson.blogspot.com/
Looks like mostly family photos.
http://glitterisforgirls.blogspot.com/
About papercraft and making cards as a hobby.
http://kimberlysbr.blogspot.com/
Random personal stuff and poetry
http://azharhshemdin.blogspot.com/
Looks like mainly photos.
Not very scientific, and I ignored all the non-English language hits, as I can't tell what they're about.
Now if you want to know what popular, successful blogs are about, that's a whole different topic!

Actually, it's not so hard to know approximate numbers. You can read "State of the Blogosphere" for 2008, by Technorati. The most popular topic among surveyed bloggers is "Personal/Lifestyle", with 54%, followed by "Technology", with 46%. Take into account that most bloggers write about several subjects, not only one. Also, subjects change according to region. http://scm-l3.technorati.com/x/static/images/public/sotb-2008/chart-p2-topics.png
