Hemorrhagic viruses are horrible. Ebola is pretty darned deadly--in fact it's so fast that it self-limits (unless you throw in air travel) because people die before they can get very far--within hours of catching it. When it first cropped up in the 90's, there was widespread fear about it, until people realized that it was so self-limiting. It's almost TOO efficient as viruses go, because it doesn't allow the victims to walk around spreading it for very long!
