Best Praise and Worship Songs of All Time

I am looking for your best recommendations as I am looking for a really great song so I an get a new album to listen to, and this field is new to me. I probably need to clarify this more, it is not necessarily the best in terms of sound or writing or anything else - best is more like what has inspired you? helped you when you have mountains to climb? that kind of thing? THANKS!!! List as many as you want, it does not have to be just one, also mention albums you liked it does not have to be just the song. Am looking for some practical suggestions that can be used by anyone looking for some quality new cds or dvds to brighten up their day.

Below is the latest song I was checking out from someone I have not listened to that looked promising: Alvin Slaughter.

Please also post the YouTube links as I want to sample them first before buying. THANKS!!!!

Let's make this a great page to share praise and worship song recommendations forever - so keep on recommending them on this page!

Probably the most inspirational and motivational video I have watched over and over is by Selah and is a video of the song "You Raise Me Up''

On the country music end of things I like LoneStar "Mountains"
----Begin Quote from Lyrics----

There are times in life when you gotta crawl
Lose your grip, trip and fall
When you can't lean on no-one else
That's when you find yourself
I've been around and I've noticed that
Walking's easier when the road is flat
Them danged ole hiils'll get you every time
Yeah, the good Lord gave us mountains
So we could learn how to climb

I'm at work so I can't link the youtube so I'll come back and leave them in a comment, but here's my thoughts:

Mighty To Save - Michael W. Smith
O Praise Him (All this for a King) - David Crowder Band
Enough - Jeremy Camp
Blessed Be Your Name - Tree 63
Yesterday, Today, and Forever - Vicky Beeching
Once Again - Matt Redman
Who Am I - Casting Crowns

When I get home, I'll make more. ;)

I listened to Casting Crowns "Praise You In The Storm" when I was going through a tough time in my life. Yolanda Adams " The Battle Is Not Yours" and Lauryn Hill "His Eye Is On The Sparrow".

Albums I recommend:

Israel Houghton: Alive in Africa ; Power of One
Misty Edwards:Relentless
Jason Upton: Faith, Key of David, Dying Star
Pablo Perez: Divine Oxygen; Majestic Splendor (you can hear samples of the song and get free downloads from www.pabloperez.com)
Heather Clark: Dark Yet Lovely; Live From Lakeland

I heard K.D. Lang's version of the song Hallelujah for the first time at the Winter Olympics 2010. I love her rendition of the song, she puts her heart and soul into a very beautiful song. I have listened to it quite a number of times since and never tire of it.

I have always found U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" to be incredibly inspiring, especially the live version from New York with the Gospel Choir in `87. It is an amazing rendition of a song that was uplifting to begin with. This song reminds me that no matter how hard we struggle to find happiness and fulfillment on Earth, we simply aren't meant to. A wise person once told me that if we found complete peace and happiness on Earth, then why would we ever be driven to make it to heaven? That's what this song tells me every time I hear it. Plus, it's just plain awesome!

However, if we're truly looking for the best ALL TIME inspirational song, I'll have to give props to "Amazing Grace". That's just one of those songs that brings about emotions in just about everyone!

I don't believe I have a "best answer" for you as it's not quite what your are targeting, but I thought back to a few of my favorites from my younger years and came up with Ave Maria. This led me to find this very interesting rendition of the song by Bobby McFerrin.

Seeing that you like soft music I will not recommend heavy metal. This is a great song that has something really deep to say, also the instrumental part is marvelous, a piece of art worthy of "Yes" .

The album I'm enjoying on my iPod right now is Hillsong United - With Hearts As One. It has upbeat songs as well as slow songs. If you go to the Hillsong website you can hear song clips from their album.

I was raised in Pentecostal churches and absolutely love the music there. Even though I'm not a Christian I still adore this gorgeous music.

Listeners beware, this is mostly Pentecostal/Apostolic type church music...Ya know, that let's get up and praise Jesus church music.

I know this isn't what some people have in mind for "praise" music, but it's all I know praise music to be.

The last couple were just for fun. Good videos, check em' out!

Enjoy!

Corny, perhaps, but here's mountains to climb and a song that embodied it perfectly. My mom was (is) a HUGE Barry Manilow. I blame the 8-track player in my Dad's '78 Cutlass--all those trips from Jersey to see my grandmother in Brooklyn--yes, Manilow's (and originally my) home turf--he and my mom attended Brooklyn College around the same time.

In June 2005, at 34 I had a massive stroke due to a condition with which I was born. I had surgery to repair it, but the surgery had to be done in 7 separate procedures, with maybe a month or two in between. In April of 2006, I was on vacation in Florida and had another massive stroke--the surgery wasn't technically complete. The final step, In March 2007, has caused two more strokes. I have been through inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation for literally over four years..

So here's why I chose this song: I was on the radio in college, from 1990 to 1993. I've always worked with the public in front-line sales or customer service. In my spare time, I've appeared in 2 local TV commercials and I'veI pumped out a few radio voiceovers here and there from a home studio--very good speech therapy to have to re-do a commercial a dozen times! I'd planned a return to radio on a local educational station, but for reasons beyond my control, I had to bow out. I'd edited clips of my shows and voiceovers into this song, but cant release that. I'd planned to use this song from 1978 as a theme song, with all the stuff edited into it.

Here's the thought behind it: I have no idea why I ever left what I love doing--radio. (Actually, I do. My first job out of college, in hospitality, paid 25% than my friends were making--and going into radio professionally, I'd have made less than they were making.). I have had a very tough road to get back to where I was--it's a miracle. Think of radio as the one real passion I've come home to after 17 away, and listen to the words it'll make sense.

The funny thing is that I actually have traveled around the world (I don't know why the song is limited to Boston to Denver. And I now live in St. Louis, and found it funny that The Gateway Arch is pictured in this montage.

I’m going to break my answer down into “current” worship music (last 10 years or so) and “all time” greats – hymns that I was singing 10+ years

Current:
- Stronger | Mighty to Save | From the Inside Out | The Stand (Hillsong/Hillsong United) – I’m probably playing these four more than any others on my iPod right now
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrGeJNshfjY&feature=PlayList&p=881BD15DDAEAB028&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=13
- Glory to God (fee) – probably my favorite from 2009. Really liked their whole album (Rise and Sing)– solid from top to bottom.
- Be My Everything (Tim Hughes) – Liked the song. Really liked this video as a worship video -
http://vimeo.com/2274495
- Everlasting God | Lord, Reign in Me (Brenton Brown) – Two solid picks from one of my favorites.
- Restore My Soul (Andi Rozier) – Great song of restoration/renewal
- Honorable Mentions – In Christ Alone (Avalon version), The Power of the Cross (Keith & Kristyn Getty), Nothing But the Blood (Matt Redman), Revelation Song, One Way (Hillsong), O Praise Him (David Crowder Band), Indescribable (Chris Tomlin)

The Timeless Stuff:
- How Great Thou Art – Just an all time great song with amazing, timeless lyrics.
- Crown Him with many Crowns - ditto
- He is Exalted (Twila Paris)– I’m not a huge fan of her music generally, but the fact that we still bust this song out at our church and it doesn’t sound ridiculously dated is amazing. The song was released in 1986 – try to find much else from ’86 that doesn’t sound old. Great song.
- Agnus Dei (Michael W. Smith) – This song probably brings me to the greatest place of worship of any on the list. I seem to forget everything else that’s going on and completely focus on the Lord.

I love this song "I Found The Lily In My Valley", written by Quentin Mills. This song so speaks to my heart in the time of cancer, death and sorrows. Life is not easy sometimes, beautiful songs of ministry can help give us peace in our turmoil.

...quote...

I FOUND A LILY IN MY VALLEY

All alone and broken hearted, trying to calm the raging battle in my mind
In search of many answers, my troubled soul just couldn't seem to find
I saw a flower blooming where there was no rain or sunshine
And I knew not that this flower would change the rest of my life

Chorus
I found a lily in my valley; I found strength when I was worn
I found the place to leave my burdens; I found refuge from the storm
At the place I prayed through dark skies; came beaming rays of sunshine
I found a lily in my valley and He blooms all the time

So if you're down and broken hearted and you just can't seem to find peace of mind
You're searching for your answers but your problems are getting worse all the time
Just reach your hands to Jesus; He'll take you in and break the ties that bind
He'll be your lily in your valley and He'll (you can watch Him) bloom all the time.

He'll be your lily in your valley; He'll be strength when you are worn
He'll be the place you leave your burdens; He'll be your refuge from the storm
At the place you've prayed through dark skies can come beaming rays of sunshine
He'll be your lily in your valley and He'll bloom all the time

Chorus
Tag
He'll be your lily in your valley and He'll bloom all the time

...end quote...
