-Much easier to hit an animal, since there's less visibility
-If you take a wrong turn somewhere, it's hard to find your way back due to the visibility and terrain.
-If you run out of gas or have car problems, there may not be a gas station or anywhere you can call for help for miles. My state has closed many rest stations recently, I'm sure other places have as well.
-Also, if you're left stranded in the desert for a while, you will need an ample supply of water to keep from dehydrating (at bare minimum a gallon).
-If there's rain in the forecasts, flash floods happen FAST!

You have seen 'The Hills Have Eyes'....Because there are crazy people out in the desert! No, but really...a couple of reasons. Your car might break down. You will probably live...but according to where you are at, you may not get phone reception. Also, according to where you bought your gps...many gps do not pick up deep in the desert...so it can be pretty easy to get lost unless you know where you are going. And...really..if you are by your self and you break down....someone crazy could come by...there are lots of coyotes (people smuggling illegal immigrants) and drug runners out in the desert...and they will kill you if they come across you...just so a witness didn't see them....you don't know who they are...but they don't care. Given that you are a woman...you may be kidnapped...that is happening in the middle of the urban cities right now...being alone in the desert...well.

Moral of the story....its not that dangerous....if your car is in good condition, you know where you are going, and you are not alone. Other issues, how far are you going....how traveled is the road...and so on and so on. Its like anywhere else, it has its specific factors...and can be dangerous if you don't take proper precautions.

And...if its in the middle of nowhere, you break down in the middle of the night...daytime rolls around and you don't have water and no one drives by...you will die.
