Lilyloretta listed the classic symptoms of PTSD. As secondary effects of the PTSD, many sufferers experience severe depression and resort to drugs or alcohol to self-medicate. Also, many with PTSD are unable to maintain normal family relationships. They experience divorce and estrangement from family and friends. They actually prefer to be alone, free from the burdens of social interaction. They also have problems with employment. They will not seek treatment because they feel their situations are hopeless.
If you or a loved one shows the symptoms of PTSD, there is hope. My husband, a Vietnam veteran, suffered increasingly worse PTSD for years until he was at the point of self-destruction. Thankfully, he got treatment at the VA and is doing great. The keys are counseling, medication, and overcoming substance abuse. Family support helps a lot.
