I don't like pain. I have suffered a lot of pain since a recent head on, high impact, motor vehicle collision, hit by a "doped out teen". The entire family was in our car. :(

It can't be cured. It can't be medicated, unless they medicate you to "zombie land". That's something they have to do during surgery, and for a while afterwards (varies by patient).

I go through an almost "self hypnosis" (there are many good books available on that) to WALK THROUGH THE PAIN. With that mantra, I get along, most of the time.

Alternating heat and ice helps. Just have to try what works at the time.

If I had no pain, I would either be paralyzed or dead or .... That can be a consolance. It doesn't make it right, but it is an angle to look at.

I don't believe that people need to endure pain to be stronger. But they do need to be strong enough to endure pain, as it happens randomly.

Many good doctors can be found that work in pain clinics.
They say "it is all in your head". So, their theory is to "trick your pain receptor" with your own mind control and divert your attention to something positive.

Once you rule out damage, disease, injury or other causes with thorough medical examinations, you can use these techniques.

There is a religious basis to enduring pain. That is something that I cannot agree with. But I do respect those who believe it. I am a born and raised Catholic. I do not like the crucifixion story. It is very sad. Very brutal and shakes me to my very soul.

Catholic? Then you know about the hair shirts and self-flaggelation, and all the sacrificial penances that are painful in endurance... I learned about the value of pain as sacrifice from my Catholic childhood. I was asking more about pain from a non-medical point of view.

you mean emotional or psychological pain. I think it's a very good question. Can you post a new question? That would be great!

I'm not good with pain, but when I'm not in pain I feel silly for ever crying or moaning about it when I was.

I know a lot of people who have a very high pain threshold. I've had several piercings, but haven't dared to get a tattoo yet. A lot of my friends and some of my family have done a lot of both and say it didn't hurt.

I think it's more important for men to be able to withstand pain. To themselves and other men, I mean. It's not something that's important to women in general.

I know different women than you. Leather Folk.

But as a Grandma, It is my experience that women have to deal with pain more often that men as a normal part of ordinary life.

I am interested in the transformation of pain into something of spiritual value I think. I have family members, all women, with multiple Tattoos, they found the pain sort of hypnotic.
