Do you search out cask conditioned beer and ale? Is that a plus when you pick a bar or restaurant to visit?

If you don't know what cask conditioned beer and ale are, please don't answer this question.

It depends on your definition of "search out" I suppose. Whilst I'm unlikely to trek to the other side of the country, climb mountains or journey miles to find a pub that has it, If I've already traveled somewhere then I will look around to see what real ale is about.

If I'm somewhere I don't know then it gives me something to look out for, and rewards me with a decent pint when I get there

Its worth doing as places that serve good beer, also care about what they put in their food...
Asker's Rating:
• Good point that seeking out good beer helps you find good food as well!

No. No choice here. It is either in a bottle or in a can. Costa Rica has a monopoly here, so the choices are limited.

It would be nice to have the option.

Bare essentials here, but the quality is passable.

I visited Costa Rica as a cruise stop and tried a bunch of the beers (I understand you are correct that they all come from one brewing company) and they were all pretty awful. This is true throughout Central America and most of the Caribbean, and even Mexico. The main exceptions are Belize, Jamaica, and a couple of Mexican brews. My best guess is that not only do they aspire to be light lagers; but, they use corn because it is cheaper than barley there.

If you are in or near San Jose I have read that one restaurant has excellent imports. Perhaps you could investigate"
