Many of these tales are meant to stop young ladies from "growing up too fast" and have little basis in reality.
This warning is just as misguided as the warning that, once you shave your legs, you must continue to do so without fail. It is an attempt to make shaving seem such an awful chore that you never start.

Is it true that shaving your legs with a razor "alters" your veins?
My mom says its because of what the razor blade is made of, but I don't think so...

No. Skin is a very protective layer. While razors can cause inflammation of the skin it cannot affect anything internally. Standing for long periods of time for years can affect your veins, wearing pantyhose or other support socks can help protect against varicose and spider veins. Genetics plays a big part and for some there is no preventing the inevitable aging process.

Shaving on top of your skin has no affect on the veins in or under the skin, unless you cut yourself. Many of these tales are meant to stop young ladies from "growing up too fast" and have little basis in reality.
