What type of hosiery should I wear with my Flapper costume?
I'm wearing a red Flapper dress with black boa and black shoes. Are plain black nylons the best thing to wear? A different color? Fishnets?

The original flappers wore garters with silk or nylon stockings that were skin-toned. They were known to put powder or rouge on their knees to show them off, too. That was pretty racy stuff back then, exposing your knees!
I don't think they generally wore black or fishnets, but it's Halloween so wear whatever you like! Most people wouldn't know the difference anyway.

For a festive costume look, I would go with black thigh high fish nets with a wide black band, or maybe a red band. If you want to go more taraditional flapper and are set on wearing hose, I would get a pair of black sheer thigh highs that are a bit too big for you and roll them at the top to hold them up, and/or use a garter belt.
You should use actual nylons with the seam down the back. People in those days would actually draw those lines on the backs of their legs to make it appear they were wearing hose. Some couldn't afford them, and sometimes during wars they was not available at all to buy. If you can't find those type, wear the fishnets.
Probably some thigh high fishnets with a seam, or some skin colored ones, I probably wouldn't wear black ones though.
