Although there is no proven way to get anyone into the Basketball Hall of Fame, there is a tried and true step by step process which I found. It's decided by the honors committee.
Here are 6 steps to getting inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame:
1. Understand that for a player, coach, referee, or contributor to be considered for the basketball hall of fame they must obtain a nomination package from the basketball hall of fame. A nominator must also include press clippings, video, articles and other factual data relevant to the nominee for the basketball hall of fame.
2. Know that there are service eligibility requirements for each nominee. A player must be retired for at least five before they are nominated. A coach or referee must be retired for five years or if still active completed twenty-five years of service. A contributor is eligible at any time subject to review by the basketball hall of fame committee.
3. Recognize that there is a nomination window when nominees must submit the proper forms and relevant data. The date a submission can first be made is October first and the window closes on December second.
4. Submit the Nomination packet to the appropriate screening committee. Four committees review the nomination packets. Those four committees are North American, Women, Veterans (for an individual whose career ended thirty-five years before the current submission), and International. If approved by the screening committee the nomination proceeds to the honors committee.
5. Realize that if a nominee does not receive a single affirmative vote for three years, there nomination is suspended for five years. The nominee may resubmit their packet to the basketball hall of fame again at that time.
6. Comprehend that if the honors committee vote for approval then the nominee is elected to the basketball hall of fame.

How do we get John Isaacs into the Basketball Hall of Fame?
Isaacs was the last surviving member of the Big Harlem Renaissance Five team during the Depression, and it seems pretty hard to believe he isn't in the Naismith Hall of Fame. How does that get decided?
