The coach said "I didn't feel that she did anything to improve herself after being told over and over what she needed to do" to an appeals committee.
It could be the player and coach simply didn't get along, as Heike was doing good enough to earn the scholarship in the first place. Probably not that she was hetrosexual, maybe just a chemistry clash where she ended up the loser.
