Having the best record in the league gives the team a lower seeded opponent in the first round of the playoffs, the wild card team, as well as home field advantage in their league playoff series. It has no bearing, necessarily, on who gets home field advantage in the World Series, since the winning league in the All-Star game gets home field advantage. If it's conceivable to get the best record in the league, i'd keep the starters in to play for that. If not, then I would play them some just to keep them sharp for playoff time, but give them some rest here and there as well.

In Major League Baseball what is the perk of winning a division and/or having the best record in the league?
Besides the obvious point of getting into the playoffs I know that home field advantage comes into play. If you win the division is there any point in playing hard so you have the best record in the league? If a team clinches the division should they rest their starters or keep playing for the best record?
