Its an ugly pace car with matching livery.
On the Quotes section - I disagree with Jalopnik view "We won't say this thing is exactly pretty, as most pace cars are not..."
That maybe true with Nascar but not with Formula 1.
Just look at the "Mercedes SL 63 AMG" 2008 F1 pace car. For the same displacement. AMG's 6.2L V8 engine got 457 bhp/ 336kW and 600 Nm of torque. This car has the most demanding pace car duties in the world trying to slow down 800+ hp formula 1 cars. It can also handle 'corners.'
The Camaro pace car, on the other hand can only produce 426 hp / 420 lb-ft of torque, and is designed mostly to go around the race track in circles.

Thanks for the European perspective. Also for reviving the word "livery." I love that word. It's not used often enough.

I always laugh at cars that put flame designs and bizarre looking graphics as their paint jobs, I am sure if it was just a normal color it would have looked much better. http://www.flickr.com/photos/33749589@N07/3281975623/
