Yeah, it's always a possibility as more people go green and become tech savvy, but it misses out the sound and smell the fuel cars produce. I don't think your real NASCAR fans would be as accepting of the electric cars, as they do not make the same sounds, nor does the gasoline scent or smoke come out of these. They may have races like this with electric cars, but I'm not sure if they would call it NASCAR. Could the track be enclosed in a dome? I don't think it would be something they would want in a dome, as it probably is a hazard of some kind, and people still like to have the fresh air come in.
According to this article, "Is Chevy Volt Coming to NASCAR?"
"It would be a hard sell for NASCAR - fans want the sounds, smells and leaks that a good NASCAR brawl provides. The racing organization is slow on change - only switching to unleaded gasoline last year. Spectators will probably take to the idea as much as hockey fans took to banning player fighting."

You can't enclose the track right now because of the fumes. I don't even think the size would be a problem. There are some things in Dubai that already are this large that are completely enclosed. But the air handlers would be crazy.

But can I see NASCAR doing your idea? Nah, for reasons that were already mentioned in the answers above me.

NASCAR fans, do you think that there will ever be a race using electric cars? Could the track be enclosed in a dome?
It might be cool to have an oval enclosed in a dome. Shops might be located near the outside of the stadium. Condos might be located high up above the sky seats. A year round income for the owner/operator.

This is a very good point. I guess if it did happen, it would be in the future with a newer generation that has grown up as their parents drove electric cars.

No on the electric cars. And another No on the dome. I think NASCAR will fade away long before that happens. I mean think about. People go to the races to hear the ROAR as the cars thunder by. If they have electric cars it would be totally silent. It would be like watching golf. You can't enclose the track right now because of the fumes. I don't even think the size would be a problem. Personally, as long as cars could still crash and catch on fire, I'd be a happy NASCAR fan. :P I'm not too big on the loud noise or the fuel smell... then again, I'm not even big on the cars going in a few hundred circles... I just wanna see who hits what, breaks into how many pieces, has flames shooting out of which end, and has people survive. But can I see NASCAR doing your idea? Nah, for reasons that were already mentioned in the answers above me.
