I have written and self-published three novels, a short story anthology, and two 3D art books.

If you want to go through the challenge of writing a novel, or at least giving it your best go, check out the National Novel Writing Month site. This is generally done in November, though I believe other alternate months are sometimes used as well.

I have a draft of a novel somewhere that I talked myself out of. I have always wanted to write something and have it published (I actually have had some articles published in the local paper), and I've been told I express myself well in written form, but I keep convincing myself that with all the incredible writers out there, the likelihood of writing something significant is nill. Maybe someday!

Yes, I tried that once. It didn't get very far. It probably had to do with the limited amount of pre-planning and outlining I had done.

So my tip would be to love what you are writing about, and have it all planned out prior to writing.

I started to write a fantasy novel once, but it never got passed the first three chapters. My mother had found it while I was still living at home and she said that she really liked it and wanted me to finish. I never did. To me - my idea was stupid.

There is no such thing as a stupid idea. Don't be so hard on your self.

I have tried... but couldn't put it together from beginning to end.... I helped a friend edit one of her books.... and that I was able to do... could give her better ways to word her thoughts.... which she appreciated.... Just can't pull it off on my own. Ohhhhh well, lol.

Yes, I have written a couple of children books or started them, never really published them, it cost too much. I also started a novel, and got to chapter 4 and had a brain freeze, so I stopped writing. I would actually like to finish them some day, but publishing a book can be expensive.
