Does the increase of Power Sellers on eBay discourage the occasional seller from listing?

Some say the competition from these large sellers decreases the small seller's opportunites. Give some examples from your experience buying or selling on eBay.

It depends on what the seller is listing. Small, occasional sellers like myself need to concentrate on finding unique and vintage items to list that don't compete with the power-sellers dropshipped, mass-produced products. After all, ebay did have its beginnings in the vintage and collectibles sales. The increase in power sellers hasn't discouraged me at all.

I've done pretty good on ebay with vintage glassware, pottery, board games, lamps, decor items and other collectibles, although sales have dropped off some with the poor economy. Estate auctions are the best place to get these types of merchandise for a little bit of nothing. Old folks' rummage sales are good, too. I've picked up glassware or pottery for 25 cents to a dollar and sold it for a huge profit on ebay. I browse the completed listings regularly to see what the hot vintage items are; right now anything from the early part of the century through the 1970's is selling well for me, especially the kitschy decor stuff!

As a small-time, occasional seller, I agree with this answer. I have never given the power sellers much thought. As long as I provide a top-notch product and exceptional service, I have nothing to be concerned about.
