A: There's not eight nation-states in Micronesia. There's seven, and some would even say six, depending upon the import one ascribes to a nation's currency.
Truly autonomous and independant are:
1) Federated States of Micronesia,
2) Kiribati,
3) Marshall Islands,
4) Nauru,
5) Palau.
Independant, but not autonomous, is:
6) Northern Mariana Islands. They hold the same status as Puerto Rico, namely "commonwealth", wherein they use American currency, and voluntarily subject to all the same rules of regulation and enforcement that the USA uses to define and defend the value of currency within its own borders. Because the primary job of the CIA is to defend the value of American currency (with all that other stuff it's been known to do being secondary according to the charter), it means NMI gets defense from the CIA, and is not a target. Consequently, some political scientists classify the NMI as defacto American territory.
Then there are two fully American territories:
7.a) Guam, which self-governs to a degree similar to that of an American State, and
7.b) Wake Island, a pure-and-simple territory of the USA, governed from Washington.

I'm a bit new to the Mahalo thing here, but isn't it a bit of a low grade move to take the source that I have listed and post basically the same answer to the same question?

Basically the same, but better organized.
I looked up the same information because I counted on your list that there were 9 at first. I thought that organizing it would make it more apparent the 8 states, the and......Chuuk was the one that I counted as being another country. Looking back on it, you do have it right.
I concede the answer to you. No point arguing about it.
