I discovered the Fountain Pen Network researching this answer and a more dedicated group of users I can't imagine :)
Rumor has it the pen is being phrased out ( not sure if its due to price or weight ) - probably a combination of both since the old style pen is very heavy - good but heavy!
also, rumor has it a newer model is being designed, a new 600 style but with the same basic features. Not sure if the nibs will be interchangeable
- the Fountain Pen network has a great forum on this if you would like to discuss with like minded people.
Now, I also found the rOtring 600 at a shopping site in Australia
so they may not be that hard to find if you hunt for them on the internet.

Those are the only two stores that seem to be well established and have good reviews. I would personally be weary of buying from ebay because of how many fakes people have purchased unknowingly on that site. Both of the sites listed above offer ups shipping and have the item in stock.

Why did Rotring stop making fountain pens, and is there anywhere else one can get a pen like the Rotring 600?
Rotring used to make these heavy, hexagonal in cross-section, fountain pens that are a joy to write with. Right now, their web page makes no reference to such pens. Why the change? Have they given anybody else the right to continue to manufacture those pens, or pens like them?

I tried to see the official rOtring news announcements but they are all in German and from what I read don't mention the 600 series, I think that's why there is nothing but rumors :) it has been interesting researching for this Q and I even found myself back at the Fountain Pen network yesterday :P

This didn't answer the sellers of a 'Rotring 600' - like aspect of the question. Nor did the response illuminate the question as to why Rotring stopped making fountain pens. Otherwise, the answer was good.

This answer doesn't suggest reasons as to why Rotring has stopped prodicing its fountain pens. Otherwise, the answer is good.

I couldn't find anything listing a specific reason for discontinuing the product. I'm sure it's the same reason every company eventually stops making certain products. Either they want to make more modern pens or the demand simply dropped so low that it wasn't worth producing them anymore. I'm sure with the influx in digital graphics instead of hand drawn, most fine pen makers have been feeling the stress.
